Courtney Shanade Salter, aka Ari Lennox, was born in Washington, D.C. on April 26th in 1991. She's an American singer-songwriter and the first artist signed by J. Cole to his record label Dreamville Records. In October 21st, 2016 she debuted Pho, her debut EP under the Dreamville Records label. That was the day she first gained recognition. Her debut studio album Shea Butter Baby was released on May 7, 2019. Ari Lennox started posting her music to the internet in 2012 when she launched her debut mixtape, Five Finger Discount and debut EP Ariography, in 2013. In 2014, she released new music through the internet including Bound. In 2015, she was featured on Omen's Elephant Eyes Album, which came out on the 21st July. it out on July 21st. J. Cole was interested by her talent and was looking to work with Rihanna. The 8th of December was the day she announced that she was contracted to Dreamville Records.
